Montezuma slot: the classic 30-line Light & Wonder game explained
The classic five-reel, 30-line Montezuma from Light & Wonder, brought online from the casino floor with Free Games and a Wheel Bonus.
Montezuma is a classic Light & Wonder slot with five reels and 30 lines, brought online from a land-based original. The Montezuma slot listed as game ID 500166 returns 95.86%, takes stakes from £0.30 to £60 a spin and offers three named features: Free Games, a Wheel Bonus and a Bonus Guarantee. It is a straightforward lines game rather than a modern mechanic-heavy release.

Which Montezuma this page covers
Several games share the name, which makes searches confusing. This page is about the classic 30-line version. It is not Montezuma Megaways or Montezuma Megaways Buy Pass, which use a different reel system, and it is not the Swintt game of the same name. Light & Wonder also lists this title twice, as "Montezuma (dual)" dated 20 December 2017 and as "Montezuma" dated 4 April 2022, with the same game ID, RTP and bets; the earlier date is treated as the release.
Free Games, the Wheel Bonus and the guarantee
Light & Wonder names the three features but does not describe how each one works. Triggers and prize ranges are set out in the paytable of the version you open, so read it before you start rather than assuming the game behaves like a similarly named one.
Top prize and stakes for GB players
The published top prize is 250,000 in currency units, reached at the maximum bet. That maximum, £60 a spin, is above what GB rules allow: at casinos licensed by the Gambling Commission, online slots have been capped at £5 per game cycle since 9 April 2025, and at £2 for players aged 18 to 24 since 21 May 2025. A prize quoted at the top stake is therefore not a figure a GB player can reach in the same way. The guide to stake limits covers the detail.
Is 95.86% a good return?
It sits close to the 96% that many newer slots list. Over a long run it means about 95.86 pence back for every pound staked, on average, with wide variation in any single session. The RTP guide explains why short sessions rarely match the published figure.
Montezuma demo and casinos that carry Light & Wonder
Light & Wonder's own website is the official route to a Montezuma demo; this site does not host one. Demo mode at a licensed casino is possible but follows the same age and identity checks as real-money play. Virgin Games, Double Bubble Bingo, Amazon Slots and Swifty Sports name Light & Wonder as a supplier. When searching their lobbies, check the line count, since the Megaways version may appear under a similar name.
