Live roulette at UK casinos: tables, formats and what to check
Live roulette streams a real wheel and croupier to your screen. This guide covers how a round runs, the table formats in GB lobbies and what to check before you bet.

Live roulette streams a real wheel and croupier from a studio to your screen: you place chips on a digital table during a timed betting window, the ball is spun, and the winning number is read from the wheel and settled automatically. In Great Britain live roulette is offered only by casinos holding a Gambling Commission remote casino licence, and the odds are those of the wheel in use - a single-zero European table keeps about 2.70% of every stake over time, exactly as its software version does.
The online roulette guide covers the wheels and bets themselves. This page is about the live product: how a round runs, the formats you will meet in GB lobbies, and what to read on a table before you sit down.

How a live roulette round runs
- Betting opens. A countdown appears and you place chips on the on-screen layout or the racetrack.
- "No more bets". When the timer ends, bets are locked. Anything not confirmed in time is not in play.
- The spin. On a dealer table the croupier spins the wheel and launches the ball by hand; on an auto table a machine does both.
- The result. Sensors and camera recognition read the pocket, the number appears on screen and winning bets are credited.
- The next round. The layout clears and the next countdown starts.
Two practical points sit in every live game's help screen. First, a bet accepted before betting closed normally stands even if your connection drops, and is settled on the result. Second, if a spin is declared void - the ball leaves the wheel, or the wheel stops - the game rules say how bets are handled, usually by a re-spin or refund. Read those rules once; they are short.
Live roulette formats you will see in GB lobbies
| Format | What is different | Named in operator lobbies |
|---|---|---|
| Dealer table | A croupier spins by hand; chat with the dealer | Live Roulette at Pub Casino and Virgin Bet; Hollywoodbets' live dealer tables |
| Auto roulette | No croupier; the ball is launched mechanically, so rounds come quicker | Auto Roulette and Speed Auto Roulette at Virgin Bet; Auto Roulette at Hollywoodbets |
| Speed roulette | A shorter betting window and faster rounds | Speed Roulette at Virgin Bet and LuckyMate |
| Immersive tables | Several cameras and slow-motion replays of the ball | Live Immersive Roulette at Bella Casino, Immersive Roulette at Virgin Bet, Immersive Roulette Deluxe at LuckyMate |
| Double-ball | Two balls per spin, with its own paytable | Hollywoodbets says it offers single-ball and double-ball variants |
| Multiplier tables | Random multipliers, paid for by lower base payouts | Lightning Roulette, Mega Roulette, Live Cash Collect Roulette at Bella Casino |
| First Person | A software (RNG) game styled like a live table | First Person Roulette at Hollywoodbets and Virgin Bet |
Multiplier tables are a different game in all but name, because the standard 35 to 1 on a single number is cut to fund the bonuses. Our page on Lightning Roulette works through that trade-off in detail.
What the house edge costs at a live table
The live format does not change the maths. On a European wheel any standard bet loses on average 2.70% of the stake: one pocket in 37 is the zero. A worked example shows what that means in practice. If you stake £2 on red every round, the expected loss is about 5.4p per round. At a table running 40 rounds an hour, that is roughly £2.16 an hour in expectation, while your actual result in any single hour can swing far above or below it.
Pace matters as much as the edge. A speed or auto table runs more rounds per hour than a dealer table, so the same stake costs more per hour on average. Some lobbies also carry double-zero tables - Virgin Bet's list includes First Person American Roulette - where the edge rises to about 5.26%. Count the zeros on the wheel before you play, and look for French rules (La Partage) if you mainly bet on even chances.
Reading a live table before you bet
- Table limits. Minimum and maximum stakes are shown on the lobby tile and in the table information. Outside bets often have a separate, higher maximum than single numbers.
- The racetrack. Call bets such as Voisins du Zero and neighbours are placed on an oval track; each is a bundle of ordinary bets, explained on our European roulette page.
- The statistics panel. "Hot" and "cold" numbers are a record of past spins only. The wheel has no memory, so the panel tells you nothing about the next result.
- The paytable. On any table with multipliers or extra balls, open the help screen and check what a single number pays before bonuses.
- Chat rules. Dealers can read the chat; abusive messages can lead to chat being removed.
Live roulette on a phone or tablet
Live tables run in the mobile browser or inside a casino's app, usually with a portrait layout where the video sits above a simplified betting grid. The stream adjusts to your connection, but a weak signal can still freeze the picture at the moment betting closes, so a stable connection matters more than for software games. Lowering the video quality in the table settings is the usual fix. The mobile casinos page compares how operators handle play on phones.
Bonus money and live tables
Live casino is often excluded from bonus play or counted at a low rate. Pub Casino's bonus rules are blunt about it: "It is not possible to play in the Live Casino with an active bonus." Since 19 January 2026, wagering on bonus funds at GB-licensed casinos is capped at 10x, but which games count, and at what rate, is still set in each offer's terms. If you mainly play live roulette, a deposit-match bonus may lock you out of the tables until it is cleared or forfeited.
Licences and player protection at live tables
- The casino must hold a Gambling Commission remote casino licence, and the studio supplying the stream must hold its own GC licence as a software supplier. You can check the casino on the public register.
- Your age and identity are verified before you can deposit or play, including free versions of games.
- The £5 and £2 stake limits apply to online slots only, so roulette limits are whatever each table sets. A personal deposit limit is the practical cap.
- Autoplay is banned across online casino products, and games show your net position and time played.
Among licensed operators with verified details, Bella Casino, Pub Casino, LuckyMate, Hollywoodbets and Virgin Bet describe live roulette tables, and 666 Casino and Amazon Slots list live dealer games. The live dealer casinos ranking compares their lobbies as a whole.

Questions readers ask
Is live roulette fair?
At a GB-licensed casino, yes in the sense that the wheel is real and results are read automatically. The casino needs a Gambling Commission licence and the studio needs its own supplier licence. The house edge still applies on every spin.
What happens if my connection drops during a live spin?
A bet accepted before betting closed normally stays in play and is settled on the result, with winnings credited to your balance. The game's help screen sets out the exact rule.
What is the difference between auto roulette and dealer roulette?
Auto roulette uses a machine to spin the wheel and launch the ball, with no croupier, so rounds are quicker. The odds on the same wheel are identical.
Can I play live roulette for free?
Live tables are played for real stakes. To practise the layout, use a software roulette demo, which at a GB-licensed casino is available only after age verification.
Do hot and cold numbers help at live roulette?
No. They record past results. Every spin is independent, so a number that has not appeared for a while is no more likely to come up next.
