Lightning Roulette: rules, multipliers and payouts
How Lightning Roulette's random multipliers work, why a single number pays 29 to 1 instead of 35 to 1, and how XXXtreme Lightning Roulette differs.

Lightning Roulette is a live roulette game from Evolution played on a single-zero European wheel. After betting closes, between one and five "Lucky Numbers" are struck by lightning and given multipliers from 50x to 500x for straight-up bets. To pay for them, an ordinary straight-up win pays 29 to 1 instead of the usual 35 to 1, while splits, streets, dozens and even-money bets pay the standard rates.
In Great Britain you can play Lightning Roulette at casinos holding a Gambling Commission remote casino licence. Hollywoodbets, LuckyMate and Virgin Bet all list it in their live lobbies, and Hollywoodbets sums it up as a game where lightning will "strike up to five numbers and apply multipliers of up to 500x".

A Lightning Roulette round, step by step
- Bets are placed on a standard European layout during the countdown.
- Betting closes and the lightning sequence runs: one to five numbers are picked at random and each gets a multiplier between 50x and 500x.
- The dealer spins the wheel and launches the ball.
- If the ball lands on a Lucky Number, straight-up bets on it are paid at the multiplier, for example 500 to 1. If it lands on any other number, straight-up bets pay 29 to 1.
- All other bets are settled at the normal European payouts, whatever the lightning did.
The Lucky Numbers and their multipliers are generated after betting closes, so you cannot chase them. The wheel itself is a real one; only the lightning is decided by software.
Lightning Roulette payouts against a classic wheel
| Bet | Classic European roulette | Lightning Roulette |
|---|---|---|
| Straight up (one number) | 35 to 1 | 29 to 1, or 50x to 500x on a Lucky Number |
| Split | 17 to 1 | 17 to 1 |
| Street | 11 to 1 | 11 to 1 |
| Corner | 8 to 1 | 8 to 1 |
| Six line | 5 to 1 | 5 to 1 |
| Dozen or column | 2 to 1 | 2 to 1 |
| Red/black, odd/even, high/low | 1 to 1 | 1 to 1 |
Always check the help screen of the table you join, because providers can update paytables and some lobbies carry several Lightning versions side by side.
The maths behind the 29 to 1 payout
On a classic wheel, a £1 straight-up bet that wins returns £35 profit. In Lightning Roulette the same win returns £29 most of the time. Each ordinary hit therefore gives up £6, and that money funds the occasional 50x to 500x payout. Over a very long run, Evolution's published return for the game sits close to that of a standard single-zero wheel, and the help screen states the figure for each bet type.
What changes is the shape of your results. Straight-up players see smaller regular wins and rare large ones; the game is more volatile on single numbers than classic roulette. Outside bets are barely affected, because they are paid at standard rates. If you only ever bet on red or black, Lightning Roulette plays almost exactly like an ordinary European table with a light show.
A short example: you place £1 on 17. If 17 wins without lightning, you collect £29 profit. If 17 had been struck at 200x, you collect £200 profit. If 17 does not come up - 36 times in 37 on average - you lose the £1 either way.
XXXtreme Lightning Roulette and related games
XXXtreme Lightning Roulette, listed by Hollywoodbets, LuckyMate and Virgin Bet, adds more lightning per round, "chain lightning" that can strike extra numbers, and a higher top multiplier. It also has its own base payout for straight-up bets, so read its paytable rather than assuming the 29 to 1 above. Virgin Bet's lobby also lists Dynasty Lightning Roulette, another variant with its own rules.
The lightning idea has been carried over to other table games: Lightning Baccarat appears in several GB lobbies, and Virgin Bet lists Lightning Blackjack among its live tables. Each uses a fee or reduced base payout to fund multipliers, so the same logic applies. For the wheel and bets themselves, see the online roulette guide.
Strategy claims and trackers
No staking plan predicts the Lucky Numbers. They are drawn at random after bets close, and each round is independent. Spreading straight-up bets across many numbers raises the chance that one of them is struck, but every extra chip carries the same house edge, so the expected cost rises in step.
Third-party trackers that list past Lucky Numbers and multipliers are a record of history, not a forecast. A number that has not been struck for hours is no more likely to be struck next round. And Lightning Roulette is not a slot, despite the flashy presentation, so the £5 and £2 slot stake limits do not apply; table limits are set per game.
Playing Lightning Roulette in Great Britain
- Licensing. Play only at a casino on the Gambling Commission register. The live studio needs its own GC supplier licence.
- Free play. Lightning Roulette is a live, real-money table. Where a casino offers a software demo of a lightning-style game, GB rules require age verification first.
- Design rules. Autoplay is banned across online casino products, and wins equal to or below your stake cannot be celebrated as wins.
- Bonuses. Live games often count little or nothing towards wagering, and some casinos block live tables while a bonus is active. Wagering on bonus funds is capped at 10x from 19 January 2026.
The live roulette page compares Lightning with Immersive, auto and speed tables, and the live dealer casinos ranking compares whole lobbies.

Questions readers ask
What is the maximum multiplier in Lightning Roulette?
500x on a straight-up bet that lands on a Lucky Number. XXXtreme Lightning Roulette has a higher top multiplier and its own paytable.
What does a straight-up bet pay in Lightning Roulette without lightning?
29 to 1, compared with 35 to 1 at classic European roulette. The difference funds the random multipliers.
Do multipliers apply to outside bets?
No. Only straight-up bets on Lucky Numbers receive multipliers. Splits, streets, dozens, columns and even-money bets pay the standard rates.
Is Lightning Roulette a slot?
No. It is a live roulette game on a real wheel, so the online slot stake limits do not apply. Stake limits are set per table.
Can trackers predict Lightning Roulette numbers?
No. Lucky Numbers are drawn at random after betting closes and each round is independent. Trackers only show past results.
