Bonanza Megaways slot review: reactions, unlimited multiplier and RTP
Big Time Gaming's 2016 original Megaways slot, with reactions that replace winning symbols and an uncapped free spins multiplier.
Bonanza is the Big Time Gaming slot that launched the Megaways mechanic in December 2016, and it is still widely known as Bonanza Megaways. It has six reels with up to 117,649 ways to win, a listed RTP of 96.00% and high volatility (one database says medium-high). Winning symbols are replaced by new ones, and in free spins every replacement raises a multiplier that has no upper limit.

What the Megaways engine does here
Each reel shows a different number of symbols on every spin, so the number of ways to win changes from spin to spin, reaching 117,649 only when every reel is at its tallest. Big Time Gaming released the game on 7 December 2016, and the mechanic has since been licensed to many other studios. The Megaways slots page explains how it works across other games.
Reactions and the multiplier with no cap
Big Time Gaming calls its cascades reactions: winning symbols are removed and new ones fall into place, which can produce another win from the same spin. In the base game this simply extends a spin. In free spins each reaction adds 1 to the win multiplier, with no cap, and extra free spins can be won without a fixed limit. A round can return very little or build into a large total, which is where the volatility comes from.
Bonanza Megaways maximum win: why no figure is given
Databases disagree on the maximum win and quote figures far apart, so this page does not state one. Use the paytable at your casino as the reference, along with the RTP shown in the game information. Online slots at GB-licensed casinos are limited to £5 per spin, or £2 for those aged 18 to 24, however high the multiplier climbs.
Other Bonanza games
Bonanza Falls, Bonanza Gold and Bonanza Down Under are separate releases with their own maths. Big Bass Bonanza Megaways, which turns up in similar searches, is a Pragmatic Play fishing game unrelated to this one; see the Big Bass Bonanza Megaways review.
