Jackpot slots in 2026: progressive, fixed and network jackpots explained

Progressive, fixed and daily jackpot slots compared: how the prize pot is funded, what it costs in RTP and what GB rules say about stakes.

Jackpot slots are slot games with a top prize that sits on top of the normal paytable: either a fixed amount set by the game, or a progressive jackpot that grows with every qualifying stake until someone wins it. In Great Britain the best-known progressive networks are Blueprint Gaming's Jackpot King and Games Global's Mega Moolah, and both appear at several licensed casinos.

This guide covers how each type of slot game jackpot is funded, why jackpot slots usually have a lower base RTP, what the odds really look like and which GB rules apply when you play.

Three kinds of jackpot slots

TypeHow the prize worksExamples in GB lobbies
Fixed jackpotA set prize or set multiple of the stake, written into the gameBasket Bounty's four fixed jackpots; Hot Slice's Minor, Major and Grand
Progressive (network)A small share of each stake across many casinos feeds one pot that keeps growingJackpot King, Mega Moolah, Mega Fortune
Daily or "must drop"A progressive pot that must pay out by a set time or before a capRed Tiger daily jackpots

Pub Casino's own explainer puts the split simply: progressive jackpot slots pool a percentage of stakes into a growing prize, while daily jackpots from providers such as Red Tiger pay out by a set time each day.

How progressive jackpot slots are funded

A progressive slot machine takes a fraction of each eligible stake and adds it to the pot. On a network jackpot that pot is shared by every casino running the game, which is how prizes reach six or seven figures. The money comes from players' stakes, so the share that goes to the jackpot is money that does not come back as ordinary wins. That is why the base-game RTP of a progressive slot is often lower than a similar slot without a jackpot, with the jackpot contribution making up part of the stated total.

Two practical consequences follow. First, most of the time you are playing a slot whose day-to-day return is modest. Second, many progressive games have tiers (Mega Moolah, for instance, has four jackpots, as Mecca Games describes it), and the smaller tiers drop far more often than the top one.

Jackpot King and Mega Moolah

Jackpot King is Blueprint Gaming's network. Rather than being one game, it is a jackpot layer added to many Blueprint slots, so you will see "Jackpot King" versions of familiar titles: Eye of Horus Jackpot King, Ted Jackpot King, Gold Frenzy Jackpot King and The Goonies Quest for Treasure Jackpot King all appear in GB lobbies. In most versions a Jackpot King symbol in the base game can trigger a separate bonus round where the jackpot is played for. If you know Eye of Horus or Fishin' Frenzy, the Jackpot King editions keep the core game and add that extra route.

Mega Moolah is the long-running Games Global (Microgaming portfolio) progressive with four tiers. It is listed at LuckyMate, Mecca Games and Pub Casino, among others. Mega Fortune is a NetEnt progressive often listed alongside it.

Names that turn up in searches, such as Jackpot Raiders or Wicked Jackpots, may be individual games or other sites; check that the title and the site are both on the Gambling Commission register before you play.

The odds: how to think about winning a jackpot machine

There is no technique for winning a jackpot. Outcomes come from a random number generator, every spin is independent, and a pot that has not dropped for a long time is not "due". What you can control is the cost of trying. Some jackpot games require a minimum stake, or a higher stake, to be eligible for the top tier; others give every stake a chance, weighted by size. That rule sits in the game's info panel and is worth reading before you start, because playing below the eligible stake means paying the jackpot contribution without any chance at the main prize. Our guide on how slots really pay goes through RTP and variance in more detail.

GB rules that apply to jackpot slots

  • Stake cap. Jackpot slots are online slots, so the maximum stake is £5 per spin, or £2 if you are 18-24. A game cannot ask for more than that to qualify for its jackpot.
  • Design rules. No spin faster than 2.5 seconds, no autoplay or turbo, and a running display of your net position and time played.
  • Tax. Gambling winnings are not taxed in the UK, including jackpots.
  • Bonus money. Many casinos exclude jackpot games from bonus play or from wagering contribution. Since 19 January 2026 GB rules cap wagering on bonus funds at 10x, but game restrictions are set in each offer's terms.

Where jackpot slots are listed

Most GB casinos have a jackpots tab. Bella Casino lists a Jackpot King section, Magical Vegas lists The Goonies Quest for Treasure Jackpot King, Amazon Slots lists Jackpot King among its slot types, and Mecca Games lists Mega Moolah and several Jackpot King titles. Wink Slots lists progressive jackpots, and Virgin Bet and Lottomart both have jackpot sections. Compare the welcome terms on our casino welcome bonuses page before you assume a jackpot game counts.

Questions readers ask

What is the difference between a progressive and a fixed jackpot?

A fixed jackpot is a set prize or stake multiple written into the game. A progressive jackpot grows with a share of each stake, often across many casinos, until someone wins it.

Do progressive slots have a lower RTP?

Often the base game does, because part of each stake funds the jackpot. The stated RTP usually includes the jackpot contribution, so check the game's info panel for how it is split.

Is a jackpot more likely to drop after a long time?

No. Spins are random and independent. Only must-drop jackpots have a deadline or cap, and that is written into the game's rules.

Do I pay tax on a slot jackpot in the UK?

No. Gambling winnings are not taxed in the UK, whatever their size.

What is Jackpot King?

Blueprint Gaming's jackpot network. It adds a progressive jackpot bonus to many Blueprint slots, such as Eye of Horus Jackpot King and Ted Jackpot King.
