Free spins bonuses at UK casinos: how the offers work in 2026

Most casino free spins in Great Britain need a £10 deposit and stake. How spin value, win caps and the 10x wagering cap decide what an offer is worth.

Free spins are a set number of spins on a named slot, given by a casino as part of a promotion. At casinos licensed by the Gambling Commission almost every free spins offer needs a deposit and a qualifying stake first, often £10, and any wagering on the winnings has been capped at 10x since 19 January 2026. This page explains how free spins deposit bonuses work, which terms decide their real value and which licensed operators currently publish a spins offer.

Free or bonus spins: what the word is allowed to mean

Advertising guidance from the ASA is clear that an offer should not be called free if you have to risk your own money to qualify. A promotion that reads "deposit £10, stake £10, get 100 spins" is a reward for spending, so this guide calls those bonus spins. Spins credited on registration with no deposit and no own-money stake are the only kind that can properly be described as free; they have their own guide on free spins with no deposit.

Operators still use the words "free spins" in their own offer names, and you will see that wording in the offer lines quoted from their terms. The label matters less than the conditions printed next to it.

Casino promotion spins versus free spins inside a slot

"Slots free spins" means two different things. Inside a game, free spins are a bonus feature: land the right symbols and the slot plays a round of spins at your current stake without taking more money. That feature is part of the game's maths and its return to player. A casino free spins bonus is different: the casino credits spins at a fixed value, usually on one named slot, and attaches its own terms. If you want to compare games by their in-game features, the online slots guide covers that side.

How a free spins deposit bonus works, step by step

  1. You open an account. GB-licensed casinos verify your age and identity before you can deposit or play, including demo games.
  2. You are prompted to set a deposit limit before the first deposit. Setting one is the default.
  3. Where the terms ask for it, you opt in to the offer before depositing. Some offers are lost if you deposit first.
  4. You deposit the qualifying amount with a payment method that is not excluded.
  5. You stake the qualifying amount, sometimes on any slot, sometimes on the same slot the spins are for.
  6. The spins are credited at a fixed value per spin and must be used within the stated period.
  7. Winnings are paid either as cash or as bonus funds that have to be wagered, never more than 10 times.

The terms that decide what 100 spins are worth

A spins offer is easiest to compare by its face value: the number of spins multiplied by the value of each spin. One hundred spins at 10p is £10 of play; fifty spins at 20p is the same £10. After that, the caps and conditions below decide how much of any win you can actually withdraw.

TermWhat to look forWhy it matters
Spin valueThe stake per spin, often 10pSets the face value of the whole offer
Eligible slotOne named game or a short listRTP and volatility of that game shape the likely result
Wagering0x to 10x, and on whatDecides whether winnings are cash or bonus funds first
Maximum winA cap such as £20, £50 or £200Anything above it is removed
ExpiryHours or days to claim and useUnused spins are lost
Payment exclusionsPaysafecard, Skrill and other e-walletsAn excluded deposit does not qualify

Slot stake limits apply to bonus play too: online slots at GB-licensed casinos have a maximum stake of £5 per spin, or £2 if you are 18 to 24.

Spins offers on current terms sheets

Three examples show how far apart offers with similar headlines can be. Magical Vegas asks for a deposit and a stake and then applies wagering and a maximum win to the spin winnings: 100 bonus spins after a £10 deposit and £10 stake.

Significant terms

Min deposit £10 and £10 stake; Paysafecard excluded; 10x wagering; max win £200; spins on The Goonies Quest for Treasure Jackpot King

Pub Casino pays the winnings from its spins as cash, but the offer has to be activated before depositing and the spins expire quickly: 50 cash spins on Octobeer Fortunes after depositing and wagering £10.

Significant terms

Deposit and wager £10; activate before depositing; spins £0.20 each, winnings paid as cash, no max cash out; Skrill deposits excluded; spins expire in 48 hours

666 Casino asks for a larger qualifying deposit and wager on the same slot the spins are for, with no wagering on what the spins win: 20 spins on Big Bass Splash when you deposit and wager £20.

Significant terms

18+, new players, first deposit; £20 must be wagered on Big Bass Splash within 7 days; spins on Big Bass Splash; 0x wagering on winnings

One slot turns up more than any other: Big Bass Splash is the named game for spins at MrQ, Midnite, Unibet Casino, 32Red, NetBet, LeoVegas and several more. The game being the same makes the terms easy to compare side by side. MrQ, for example, pays winnings from its spins with no wagering: 100 bonus spins on Big Bass Splash with the first £10 deposit, no wagering.

Significant terms

First deposit £10; spins on Big Bass Splash at 10p; use within 48 hours; winnings uncapped and paid as cash (no wagering)

20, 50, 100 or 200 free spins: does the number matter?

A bigger number is not a bigger offer on its own. Twenty spins at 50p carry more face value than 100 spins at 10p, and a £20 maximum win can make 100 spins worth less than 50 spins with no cap. Prize-wheel offers that promise "up to 500 spins" describe the best possible result of a spin of the wheel, not what most players receive; the terms set out the odds or the range only in some cases. Compare the face value, the cap and the wagering, then the number.

Free spins with no deposit or no wagering

Offers that pay spin winnings as cash are covered in the guide to no wagering free spins. They usually still need a deposit and stake, so they are wager-free rather than free, but they remove the step where winnings are locked as bonus funds.

Before you opt in to a spins offer

  • Check the casino is on the Gambling Commission public register under the company named in its footer.
  • Work out the face value: spins multiplied by spin value.
  • Read the maximum win and the wagering together, not separately.
  • Note the expiry and whether you must opt in before depositing.
  • Use a payment method the terms allow, and remember credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Great Britain.

18+ only. A spins offer is a reason to try a game, not a way to make money, and the qualifying deposit is your own money at risk. Set a limit before you play and see the responsible gambling page for the tools every licensed casino has to offer.

Questions readers ask

Are free spins really free at UK casinos?

Only when no deposit and no stake of your own money is needed. Most offers at GB-licensed casinos require a deposit and a qualifying stake, which makes them bonus spins rather than free ones.

Can I win real money from free spins?

Yes. Winnings are paid either as withdrawable cash or as bonus funds that must be wagered first, never more than 10 times under GB rules from 19 January 2026. A maximum win cap may limit what you keep.

What is a typical free spins deposit offer in 2026?

A common format is a £10 deposit and a £10 stake for a set number of spins at around 10p each on one named slot, with a maximum win and an expiry of a few days.

Can I use free spins on any slot?

Usually not. Casino spins are normally locked to one named slot or a short list, and the spin value is fixed by the operator.

Do slot stake limits apply to free spins?

Yes. Online slots at GB-licensed casinos have a maximum stake of £5 per spin, or £2 for players aged 18 to 24, and that includes bonus play.
